Lincoln's Log | Page 1 | Volume 1 - 010 LINCOLN'S LOG A guide to innovative bar code, wireless and RFID track and trace solutions www. abetech. com AbeTech Becomes a Socialite AbeTech has officially joined the phenomenon known as Social Media. Yes, we're on Facebook, Twitter and Linked- in, but primarily you'll want to follow our blog - http:// abrahamtechnicalservices. wordpress. com/. Weekly, we'll post educational, interesting, industry, life- altering articles that are short, to- the- point and entertaining. Sound too good to be true? Honestly, it might be, but you'll have to check it out to be sure. Are you " n"? That is the main question on many people's minds when they consider wireless infrastructures in today's world. The 802.11n standard was finally ratified by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers ( IEEE) in September of 2009. So what does this mean for users who either are looking to implement wireless or upgrade a wireless infrastructure that's already up and running? In a nut shell, 802.11n will significantly increase the maximum data rate - from 54 Mbit/ s to a maximum 600 Mbit/ s - as a result of spatial streams with a channel width of 40 MHz, rather then the current 20 MHz. It also incorporates a new technology called MIMO, whereby access points use multiple inputs in the receiver and multiple outputs from the transmitter. Legacy access points only use a single input and output. This means that users will notice not only an increase in speed, but also fewer " dead spots" in their homes and businesses. The new standard will also be more reliable for voice- over- IP and, in general, for multiple users executing multiple tasks over the network. In fact, 802.11n will also enhance network performance, increasingly in demand due to the quick adoption of smartphones ( iPhone, BlackBerry, Droid, etc.) and other handheld, internet- connected devices. Many experts believe this new " super network" supported by 802.11n - with lightning- fast wireless connectivity to cloud- based services - will form the foundation for the next decade. As we move forward, wired and wireless networks will become more integrated to provide organizations with a unified network that is predictable and fast, featuring the highest integrity.
